be’ah receives total waste of 30,000 tons during Eid Holidays, 30% increase compared to regular days

The Environmental Services Holding Company in Oman, be’ah, has collected over 30 thousand tons of waste during the recent Eid Al Fitr holidays from April 21st to April 24th. This is part of be’ah’s effort to handle large quantities of waste quickly and dispose of them according to the environmental, health, and safety standards by transporting them to the Engineered Landfills.

According to the Acting Municipal Solid Waste Sector Strategies Manager at be’ah, Yaarub Al Sulaimi, “the company cooperated with waste management services providers in various governorates to implement a strategic plan in order to manage the expected large amounts of municipal solid waste and slaughter waste received during the Eid holidays”. Within this context, be’ah allocated specific locations for the collection of slaughter waste, also known as skip locations while considering factors including population density and the accessibility to these sites by citizens. Moreover, be’ah increased the frequency of waste collection through all the governorates. To ensure public health and safety, the slaughter waste is transported to the engineered landfills daily and continuously throughout the Eid holiday.

be’ah shared the locations of the containers through an online link on various social media platforms, allowing all segments of society to access the information.

Al Sulaimi adds that the company increased the working hours of transfer stations and landfills to support waste collection operations in all governorates of Oman.

The Engineered landfills received a total waste of more than 30 thousand tons of municipal solid waste across all of Oman. It has been estimated that the average total number of waste received per day during Eid Al Fitr was more than 7,000 tons, an increase of 30% compared to the daily waste received during regular days.
