Heavy rush across Oman to buy essentials for Eid
Muscat: Various shops and commercial establishments in Muscat and the Wilayat of Salalah in the Dhofar Governorate and other parts of Oman witnessed a massive rush of customers on Friday for the last-minute purchases just before the advent of Eid Al-Fitr.
People from all walks of life were seen buying clothes, sweets and other essentials that are served to celebrate Eid. Excitement was alike both among citizens and residents. Many expats were seen talking on phones to their relatives back home while buying items, giving details of minute purchases.
Muttrah Souq was chock-a-block on Friday with all the shops being swarmed by customers. Shopkeepers were having a tough time catering to the needs of buyers.
There was no space for parking and bumper to bumper traffic was seen at theMuttrah Souq roundabout. Young children were most enthusiastic as they got an opportunity to buy new dresses. While their parents were busy shopping, young kids were savouring ice cream and chocolates.
The same enthusiasm was seen in other governorates with people out on roads to buy their necessities. Some were seen taking away stitched clothes from tailors while others were seen giving measurements hoping that their clothes would be ready to wear on Eid day.
Shops that sell traditional Omani foods, such as Omani sweets, and traditional restaurants that prepare ‘Ma’jeen’ and local bread (Qalb), witnessed a great demand, as they are considered the main foods for many families in the Dhofar governorate during Eid.
