Ahmed Al Dhawi is first Omani to be GRI certified sustainability professional

Muscat: A desire to achieve more qualitative capabilities has led Ahmed Mohammed Al Dhawi to become the first Omani to be certified as a sustainability professional by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) based on the GRI Universal Standards 2021.

With more than 11 years of working experience in the environmental field in the private sector in Oman, Al Dhawi got the prestigious GRI certification as a sustainability professional based on the latest version of the GRI Universal Standards, which were released in the GRI in 2021.

He completed his GRI Certified Training Program to receive the certificate of achievement through the GRI Academy. Al Dhawi is currently among the only two GRI Certified Sustainability Professionals in Oman, the other being Osman Bargouth. Previously Srinivasa Rao Pentapalli had been a GRI professional but his certification got over in 2022.

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an independent, international organisation that has developed a widely recognised framework. It offers a set of standards and guidelines for sustainability reporting that assists companies, governments, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to measure and report their most significant impacts on the economy, environment, and people, including impacts on their human rights.

GRI standards also assist organisations in focusing on their positive contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, GRI is just one of many frameworks that can be used to assess Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) performance. However, using the GRI framework can help companies identify and report on their ESG performance, which can facilitate comparison and benchmark across companies.

GRI provides the world's most widely used sustainability reporting standards, which cover topics that range from biodiversity to tax, waste to emissions and diversity and equality to health and safety. As such, GRI reporting is the enabler for transparency and dialogue between companies and their stakeholders.
