Muscat: The Indian embassy in Muscat started a blood donation campaign on Friday which was inaugurated by the Minister of Health, Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti.
Praising the blood donation drive, Dr Al Sabti said: “We really value this initiative. This initiative will reflect positively on the Indian community. As everyone knows, blood is very valuable, wherever it comes from.”
Dr. Zainab bint Salim Al-Araimi, Director of the Blood Banks Services Department, said: “Actually we need all the blood groups but more of O positive because it can be given to other blood groups. Everyone can donate this time during Ramadan as all the blood banks are suffering from shortages. This campaign is very supportive of blood banks and we are going to launch this drive in other centres and in Salalah."
Speaking on the occasion, the Indian ambassador said that last year we had started Ramadan blood donation drive in which we had collected more than 1,400 units of blood. Even the figures this time is very encouraging as we have collected over 300 units of blood on Friday.
