Muscat: A new Indian School, the 20th one in Oman, is set to welcome its first batch of students in April 2018, the Board of Directors of Indian Schools announced on Wednesday. The board has obtained permission to start the school at Saham, fulfilling a long-cherished educational requirement of the local Indian diaspora.
The Board had been sincerely working towards getting permissions from the Ministry of Education and other departments for the new school.
“The children of this region have been going to either Sohar or Muladha for their education and those who could not travel that far were confined to either home tuitions or to attending private schools. The new Indian School at Saham will become operational from April this year,” Wilson V. George, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said.
He also thanked the Government of Oman and the Oman Ministry of Education for the support extended to the Indian community. “Opening of this new school is the result of hard work by a team of community members who supported the Board to set up infrastructure, equipment, and other facilities for the school. I thank the Indian community in Saham and request their continued support for the smooth operation of the school, which will be inaugurated in a few weeks,” George said.
C.M. Najeeb, Vice-Chairman of the Board and Head of the Saham School Project, said: “We have been working for about a year towards setting up this new school and I am glad that it has become a reality. I congratulate the community at Saham.”
The Indian School Saham will initially have classes from kindergarten to Class V. Subsequent classes will be added, subject to permission from the government and demand for admissions.
The school building is ready near Hafeeth in Saham. The office will be functional and the admission process will start from the second week of March. Parents can complete all procedures pertaining to admissions at the school itself.
The principal and staff for the new school have already been appointed, required furniture and other infrastructure are in place, and classrooms have been equipped with the latest educational amenities.
Expatriate students
Indian Schools in Oman have the largest number of expatriate students. At present, they have nearly 46,000 students in 19 schools.
Children of other nationalities can also take admission in Indian Schools, if they don’t have a school of their own in a particular locality. All endeavours of the Indian educational system are directed towards producing knowledgeable and morally sound individuals who can make a difference to the society they live in.
Meanwhile, the Indian diaspora in Muscat will soon see the opening of yet another school within a year.
The upcoming school at Bowsher Al Awabi is going to be a major achievement for the Board of Directors, as the school will ease the burden of afternoon shifts in the capital area.
The new school with its state-of-the-art facilities will be a great educational monument for the Indian community.
The Board of Directors strives to ensure that every Indian child living in the Sultanate is provided with quality education at an affordable fee and would continue to make all efforts to further augment it for the Indian diaspora.
