Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development in Al-Aman Rehabilitation Centre has provided its services to 384 disabled people so far.
The centre that offers services to people with physical, intellectual and simple, medium disabilities has handled 73 cases in its diagnostic unit, 125 cases in the Al-Aman unit and 186 cases in the Al-Wafa unit.
The Al-Wafa unit provides help for newborns and teenagers until the age of 15, while the AL-Aman unit handles cases of those above 15 who have dual, medium or severe multi-disability. Services and programmes are provided during the daytime, but for those living outside the Muscat Governorate in-house residence is available.
The diagnostic unit meanwhile, has served 74 people with autism spectrum disorder and children affected by Down’s syndrome. The Unit has four autism classes and two classes for people with Down’s, offering special education programmes and support services such as speech correction, occupational therapy and physiotherapy.
The Director of the Centre for Safety Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Social Development, Dr Nadia Bint Ali Al Ajamiya said that the Ministry has given attention to the diagnosis and evaluation of the disabled and that is the foundation on which all the rehabilitation and educational plans are based.
