Muscat: Operations at the new air cargo building of Muscat International Airport will commence on March 19, announced the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Goods to be transported will only be received at the new building from that date. The delivery of goods to the customers from the current cargo terminal will continue until March 29. The Ministry of Transport and Communications said that the operations of the new cargo building is part of the preparations for the commencement of commercial flights from Muscat International Airport scheduled for March 20.
Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Za’abi, CEO of the Public Authority for Civil Aviation said that the construction of the new cargo building has been completed.
He also added that the new cargo building is one of the projects affiliated to Muscat International Airport Development Project.
The Ministry is working in coordination with Oman Aviation Services Company and all other departments concerned for the preparation of the new cargo building so that the movement of goods is shifted to the new cargo building.
The new cargo building is built in accordance with the latest international standards over a total area of 32,000 sqm, the stores area is 23,000sqm with a storage capacity of 350,000 tonnes per annum, which can be increased to 500,000 sqm in the future.
The new cargo building is equipped with integrated technologies and new facilities to handle all types of goods.
