Muscat: The Ministry of Social Development on Saturday issued two ministerial decisions, the first of which requires amending the name of the ‘Omani Society for Cinema and Theatre’ to be called the ‘Omani Film Association', and the second decision requires publicising the ‘Omani Theatre Society’.
The Omani Film Society works to bring together those involved in the film industry under one umbrella and enhance cooperation between them and take care of their interests and their material and moral rights.
In addition it will support joint efforts in establishing an effective cinema industry consistent with the objectives of the association and introduce Omani filmmakers' productions in Arab and international forums.
The association also works to represent Omani filmmakers in conferences, festivals and film gatherings in the Gulf, Arab and international countries, as well as opening channels of communication with the official and civil authorities in the Sultanate of Oman and obtaining their support for the objectives of the association and holding conferences, seminars and film festivals inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, which contributes to activating and revitalising the film industry.
In addition to holding training and educational courses and workshops in all fields and specialisations related to cinema to contribute to supporting the competence of those working in it in the Sultanate of Oman, in cooperation with institutes, academies and bodies specialised in cinema arts inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman, after obtaining the approval of the ministry.
While the Omani Theatre Association works to bring together those working in the art of theatre in the Sultanate of Oman under one umbrella, achieving acquaintance and caring for their interests and their moral and material rights, and supporting joint efforts in promoting the theatrical movement.
