Muscat: According to a report by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), heavy thundershowers are expected in most parts of Oman starting tomorrow, Tuesday, March 21, until Wednesday, March 22.

As per Alert No2 issued by the CAA: “Heavy thundershowers are expected to continue from tomorrow, the 21st of March until Wednesday, the 22nd of March morning over governorates of Dhofar and Al Wusta. However, the thundershower might gradually extend to the Governorates of South Al Sharqiya, North Al Sharqiya, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, Al Buraimi, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Muscat and Musandam in the afternoon"

“Rainfall is expected to range between 10 mm to 70 mm within a span of 24 hours,” The CAA added in the alert.

Expected Impacts:

1. Wadis might overflow in the prone areas occasionally. This is associated with fresh downdraft winds and hails.

2. Reduction in horizontal visibility during thunderstorms to a point less than 1,000 meters.

3. The state of the seas will be moderate to rough with maximum wave height ranging from 1.5 meters to 3.0 meters along the coasts of Arabian Sea and South Al Sharqiyah governorate.

The CAA has asked the citizens to take precautions during thunderstorms. The residents are informed to refrain from crossing wadis, visiting low land areas, as well as avoid sea activities during these weather conditions.
