Muscat: On completion of their training period, 90 percent of trainees have been recruited in the Sultanate of Oman's labour market, said Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad Al-Alawi, in charge of the Training Support Centre at the Ministry of Labour (MoL).

In exclusive statements to Al-Shabiba Radio through the “Ma’a Al Shabiba” show, Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad Al-Alawi, in charge of the Training Support Center at the Ministry of Labour, said: “The Training Support Centre of the Ministry of Labour is a department of the Human Resources Development sector at the Ministry. The aim of this centre is to bridge the skill gap between supply and demand. We have some outputs that are lacking in some training doses to support them in joining the labour market. The Centre carries out programmes for those concerned by providing training courses for job seekers with the aim of enhancing their methods of employment so that employment opportunities are available and expanded.”

Al-Alawi added that the centre seeks to develop training tools and courses to improve the training aspect and reach advanced stages. “The Ministry of Labour receives training requests through two sources. The first source is through training institutes after surveying the market and identifying needs. The second source is through the companies themselves that present to the Ministry their need for trainees. The Ministry deals with the sources in the same ways and applies quality standards through a specialised team concerned with applying such standards to all applications to determine whether a certain job needs training,” he added.

“The institutions wishing to bring in trainees must obtain a license from the Ministry of Labour through which they will be able to perform their duties for trainees looking for jobs. As for the training curricula, they are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation in general. The Ministry of Labour also plays its role in reviewing training curricula and programmes according to the requirements of each company that wants to benefit from training,” Al-Alawi said.
