MSX index ends lower

Muscat: The MSX index closed at 4,632.75 points, down by 0.67 per cent from the previous close. The Sharia Index ended down by 0.52 per cent at 479.02 points. Takaful Oman, up 7.69 per cent, was the top gainer while Al Anwar Ceramics, down 8.82 per cent, was the top loser. Shares of Bank Muscat were the most active in terms of the number of shares traded while Oman Telecom were the most active in terms of turnover.

A total number of 336 trades were executed during the day's trading session, generating a turnover of OMR1.86 million, with more than 7.7 million shares changing hands. Out of 42 traded securities, 12 advanced, 11 declined, and 19 remained unchanged. At the session close, domestic investors were net sellers for OMR51,000 while GCC & Arab investors were net buyers for OMR33,000, followed by foreign investors for OMR18,000 worth of shares.

Financial Index closed at 7,453.83 points, down 0.22 per cent. Prices of Takaful Oman, Al Madina Takaful, National Bank Oman and Bank Muscat were up by 7.69 per cent, 1.11 per cent, 0.78 per cent and 0.70 per cent respectively. Prices of Sohar International Bank and Bank Nizwa were down by 4.48 per cent and 1.00 per cent respectively.

Industrial Index closed at 5,877.89 points, down 0.82 per cent. Prices of Dhofar Cattle Feed, Oman Fisheries, Jazeera Steel Products and Voltamp Energy were up by 4.48 per cent, 2.41 per cent, 2.06 per cent and 2.00 per cent respectively. Prices of Al Anwar Ceramics, Galfar Engineering and Oman Cement were down by 8.82 per cent, 2.06 per cent and 0.66 per cent respectively.

Services Index was down by 0.04 per cent before closing at 1,674.43 points. Prices of Al Suwadi Power, Al Batinah Power, OIFC and SMN Power Holding were up by 6.25 per cent, 3.13 per cent, 2.38 per cent and 1.96 per cent respectively. Prices of Oman Telecom, Renaissance Services, National Gas, Shell Oman Marketing, and Ooredoo were down by 2.10 per cent, 1.35 per cent, 1.00 per cent, 0.91 per cent and 0.49 per cent respectively.
