Foundation stone of Central Laboratory for Public Health to be laid in Seeb

Muscat: The Ministry of Health will celebrate on Tuesday the laying of foundation stone of the Central Laboratory for Public Health in the Wilayat of Seeb, Muscat Governorate.

The cost of the construction of the project is OMR18.20 million on a total area of 18,188 square metres. The main building of the Central Laboratory for Public Health has a number of departments including the chemistry lab, the biochemistry lab, the toxins lab, testing lab, the germs lab (a referral lab for antibiotic resistant microbes).

The building also has a department for quality and risks management, viruses lab regional paralysis lab, national flu lab, Regional SARS Virus lab among others.

The Ministry of Health aspires for construction of an integrated modern and a well–equipped building for the  Central Laboratory for Public Health.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik while presiding over one of the meetings of Supreme Committee for COVID-19 pandemic on 2nd June, 2020 had ordered the construction of a central lab for public health to keep abreast of the technological developments.

The lab  is vital for the Sultanate as it would serve the Middle East Region  and would play an important role within the globally accredited labs.

The Central Laboratory for Public Health is the first of its kind at the regional level in this field.
