Oman Broadband's investments reached OMR90mn in 2022

Muscat: More than OMR90 million in investments have been made at the end of 2022 by Oman Broadband Company since its establishment in 2014.

The total fibre optic connections until the end of 2022 in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman reached about 606,310 connections, while the coverage rate in all governorates reached about 52 per cent, Eng. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Wahaibi, CEO of the Oman Broadband Company said.

He added to Oman News Agency (ONA) that the total number of subscribers to the optical fibre service reached 213,073 subscribers in various governorates, with coverage reaching 35 per cent of Oman.
Al-Wahaibi explained that fibre optic connections in Al Buraimi Governorate amounted to 17,168, with a coverage rate of 51 per cent, while in the Governorate of South Al Batinah, it amounted to 42,596 connections, with a coverage rate of 35 per cent, while connections in the Governorate of North Al Batinah amounted to 51,740 connections, with a coverage rate of up to to 29 per cent.

He added that the total subscribers to the fibre optic service in Al Buraimi Governorate reached 3,724, with a subscription rate of 22 per cent while the total subscribers in South Al Batinah reached 13,882, with a subscription rate of 33 per cent. In North Al Batinah, the number of subscribers reached 16,208, with a subscription rate. up to 31 per cent.

The CEO of the Oman Broadband Company indicated that the company aims to implement an optical fibre network to cover more than 180,000 additional units, bringing the coverage rate to 66 per cent in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman in its plan from 2023 to 2025 in its the second phase expansion.

He further stressed that the company's executive team will conduct several field visits to the network extension sites in various governorates and will also meet with specialists and officials to enhance opportunities for cooperation with governorate administrations to build a new fibre optic network and explore investment opportunities from other governorates.

The company seeks to increase its gross domestic product in the governorate in line with the national broadband strategy in the development of the business system in various sectors, including the education system and health systems.
