Muscat: ABA student Ayman Al Busaidi, U-18 Omani National Golfer, is set to tee off at the Asian Tour’s 2023 International Series premiering in Muscat tomorrow, at Al Mouj Golf. The 16-year old has been a member of the U18 Oman National Golf Team for seven years and has represented the country in golf championships across the GCC, as well as in prestigious international tournaments.
World-renowned golfers including major winners Bruce Koepke, Sergio Garcia and Louis Oouisthazen are among the 132-strong line-up of top-level pros set to play over four days at the challenging 18-hole championship golf course at Al Mouj Golf, the first links-style golf course to be created in Oman.
Ayman, a Grade 11 student at ABA Oman International School, has supported many charities in the country with his passion for golf. Ayman was recently invited by UNICEF Oman to participate in a panel discussion with HE Basil bin Ahmed Al-Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, where he shared his vision for the future of Golf in Oman and the benefits to the country’s economy and youth.
Ayman who has his hopes pinned on the win stated, “I am delighted to be playing in the International series alongside the greats. Through golf, and the opportunities that come with it, I hope to raise awareness for significant causes that need local, regional and global support. It is incredible that the Oman Golf Association has launched this new event in such an important golfing region, in association with Al Mouj Golf. I’m truly grateful for all the support and hope to make my country proud.”
Simon Walker, Assistant Head of School and High School Principal, ABA Oman International school, an avid golfer himself said, “It is a pleasure to welcome so many major golf winners to the Sultanate of Oman, and a privilege as High School Principal to be caddying for one of our ABA students. Ayman is a fantastic young man and a great ambassador for ABA, and golf in Oman. If you have the opportunity, do come to the course and cheer for Ayman.”
Oman’s championship golf course - Al Mouj Golf, is the first golf course in the Middle East to host the season opener of 2023’s International Series, the elevated series of tournaments on the Asian Tour. It is the only recognised pan-Asian professional golf tour in Asia and will see some of the world’s best players compete for a prize fund of $2 million.
