Warm winds likely to raise temperatures in Oman

Muscat: The cool spell of weather may be over for a brief period with the daytime temperatures likely to climb and enter mid-30s in some parts of Oman this week.

An official from the Oman Meteorology confirmed to Times of Oman that most of the wilayats will witness a noticeable rise in temperatures from 7 February due to the southeasterly winds coming from the tropics and subtropics which are relatively warm.

He also added that on February 9-10 the Sultanate’s atmosphere will be affected by a low tropical trough due to the northwesterly winds, which will again bring down the temperatures.

The official, however, said the temperature will start dropping from February 9 or 10, after which the normal temperatures will return to the wilayats of the Sultanate of Oman.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued executive regulations for the Civil Aviation Law, including a ban on publication of unofficial meteorological data.

Saeed Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Civil Aviation Authority, issued Decision No. 116/2023 for the Civil Aviation Law. The regulations come three years after the issuance of the Civil Aviation Law by Royal Decree No. 76/2019.

The wilayats of North and South Al Sharqiyah governorates recorded the highest temperatures with Bidiyah in North Al Sharqiyah, Al Kamil and Al Wafi in South Al Sharqiyah recorded the highest temperature in the Sultanate of Oman at 31.5 degrees Celsius.

The Wilayat of Dima and Al Tayin in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded 31.4 degrees Celsius, Al Mudhaibi in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded 32.1 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

As for the lowest temperature, it was recorded in Jabal Shams in the Wilayat Al-Hamra in Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate. The Wilayat of Seeq recorded 10.3 degrees Celsius, the Wilayat of Marmul and Yanqul recorded 12.5 degrees Celsius each.

The winter season for 2022/2023 began in Oman on December 22, 2022 and ends on March 21, 2023, so it will last for 89 days.
