Cheque-bounce cases top crime in Oman

Muscat: Bounced cheques have topped all the crimes registered in the Sultanate of Oman during the year 2022, totaling 6,500 cases and at a rate of 14.9 per cent, said His Excellency Nasr bin Khamis Al Sawai, Public Prosecutor.

He explained during the annual conference of the Public Prosecution, which reviews the indicators and statistics of the cases that the Public Prosecution dealt in 2022: “The total sums collected for the public right in the past year amounted to OMR 12.418 million. And the total number of judgments issued last year reached 15,442, 90.2% of which were implemented.”

His Excellency explained that there are some cases that cannot be reconciled or waived, even if the owner of the case deals with it.

The Public Prosecution stated that it is working on a plan to approve a mechanism which shortens the intervals between investigation sessions, and to further employ modern technologies.
