Muscat: A regional workshop on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in promoting fairness and progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) began at the Governorate of Muscat on Tuesday.
The two-day workshop highlights pioneering experiences and practices in this field.
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Muna Salim Al Jardani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Vocational Training.
The event coincides with marking the International Day of Education. It is organised by the Ministry of Education, represented by Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science in cooperation with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO).
Experts from various parts of the world are taking part in the workshop. Those include experts from UNESCO, the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) and the Regional Centre for Educational Planning (RCEP) at Sharjah, among others.
The workshop aims to shed light on the efforts of Arab and Islamic countries in promoting fairness and progress towards achieving SDG 4 through AI applications.
It also targets reviewing successful regional and international experiences in the field of utilizing artificial intelligence in education.
The opening ceremony included a keynote paper on the ethics of using artificial intelligence. In addition, the first day included two sessions on various topics related to AI.
