Cleaning campaign for coral reefs launched in Mirbat

Muscat: A cleaning campaign for coral reefs was launched in the Wilayat of Mirbat on Tuesday. The campaign has been organised by the Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, with the participation of a number of government, private and civil agencies and volunteer teams.

Head of the Marine Environment Department at the Directorate General of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, said that the campaign comes as part of the efforts to preserve the marine environment by removing fishing nets and remnants attached to coral reefs as a result of wrong environmental practices.

It is worth noting that the campaign will last for five days and aims to enhance the environmental awareness among the participants and the community. It will help in spreading awareness about the dangers of waste that pollute coral reefs and affect wildlife in the marine environment.
