Cyclone Fani caused heavy crop damage in Bangladesh: Gov

Dhaka: Cyclone Fani caused at least $4.5 million (380 million taka) in crop damage according to a senior official in Bangladesh.

Minister of Agriculture Dr M Abdur Razzaque said the losses were caused by the inundation of crops during the storm.

The minister stated that preliminary data showed that crops on 63,063 hectares of land in 35 districts were partially destroyed.

That included included paddy, maize, vegetables, and jute crops, affecting 13,631 farmers in 35 districts, more than half of the country.

The cyclone districts affected were Narayanganj, Tangail, Munshiganj, Mymensingh, Sherpur, Jamalpur, Netrokona, B-Baria, Feni, Laxmipur, Sylhet, Sunamganj, Bogura, Jaipurhat, Sirajganj, Rajshahi, Naogaon, Chapainwabganj, Natore, Gaibandha, Khulna, Bagerhat, Satkhira, Narail, Chuadanga, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Shariatpur, Barishal, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Jahalokhati and Pirojpur.
