Muscat: Hosts Oman continued their impressive form as they trounced Thailand 7-1 for their second successive win in the Men’s Junior AHF Cup Muscat 2023 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex on Sunday night.

The victory in Pool A meant Oman, who were last edition’s runner-up, lead the table followed by Thailand. The hosts were off to a flying start as Hussam Bait found the target through a penalty stroke.

Oman pumped in four more goals by the end of the first half with Ilyas al Noufali, Talal Bait and Hussam Bait among the scorers. Thailand got a consolation goal in the 37th minute when Phongsakon Khamkoed beat the Omani goalkeeper.

Oman captain Osama Barazahan then increased the tally with a goal in the 46th minute and Hassan al Balushi rounded off a comfortable win with a goal in the last minute of the match.

Thailand next face Chinese Taipei while Oman will meet Indonesia.

In another Pool A match, Chinese Taipei were held to a 2-2 draw by Indonesia. Both the teams earned a point each to open their account, having suffered defeats in their respective opening matches against Oman and Thailand.
