Muscat: The total value of tenders and projects awarded by the Tender Board in 2022 increased to OMR505.3 million, compared to OMR252.5 million in 2021, recording an increase of about 100 per cent.

This rise came in conjunction with the rise in government revenues and the increase in government spending on various sectors to meet the needs of citizens, stimulating economic activity, improving the business environment, and raising the efficiency of infrastructure and the health, education, social and cultural sectors.

The five largest tenders in terms of cost were distributed over the sectors of health, infrastructure, education and information technology. The tender for the provision of catering and nutrition services, hygiene services, laundry and pest control for hospitals, complexes and health centres affiliated with the Ministry of Health ranked first for OMR59.9 million.

A tender for the supply of medicines, vaccines and serums for the Ministry of Health ranked second for OMR52.1 million, and in third place came a project to construct a dam to protect against flood risks on the mountain gorge in Wadi Adai in the Wilayat of Al Amerat in Muscat Governorate, at OMR38.6 million, and a project to design and implement 13 schools in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman ranked fourth.

For OMR26.7 million, the tender for the supply, design and installation of the government financial system for a period of (5 years) for the Ministry of Finance came in fifth place for OMR21.3 million.

During the past year, the health sector witnessed the awarding of several vital projects such as the establishment of the Central Public Health Laboratory for OMR18.2 million and the establishment of Mahout Hospital in Al Wusta Governorate for OMR13.9 million. Catering, food, hygiene, laundry and pest control services in health hospitals affiliated with the Ministry of Health, supplying dialysis supplies, providing periodic maintenance services and providing spare parts for medical devices in various government health institutions, with increased attention to anaesthesia devices, artificial respiration, echocardiography devices, ultrasound systems and existing medical devices. in eye clinics.

The roads sector came second in terms of the cost of awarded tenders during the year 2022. The sector witnessed the awarding of nine tenders for the maintenance of asphalt and dirt roads for five years in several governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, at a total cost of OMR63.1 million. The sector also witnessed awarding of tenders for the construction of new roads.

Such as (Harweb-Mateen) road in Dhofar Governorate, which costs about OMR17.4 million, constructing Al-Aflaj Road in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi at a cost of OMR4.1 million, paving internal roads in Al-Hamra’a 'Second Package' at a cost of OMR3.5 million, and implementing the Halban Road duplication project (the first phase) at a cost of OMR3.2 million, and the construction of a linking road between Al Amerat Street and Al Joud Street (the first phase) at a cost of OMR2.9 million.

Last year also witnessed the awarding of the tender for the remaining works on the asphalt road (Mahlah - Ghubrah Al-Tam - Ismaia) in the Wilayat of Dima and Al-Tayyin in the North Al-Sharqiyah Governorate at a cost of OMR7.9 million, and the tender for the improvement works on the project to add the third and fourth lanes on the duality of the Rusayl-Nizwa road from the intersection of the road Muscat Expressway to Al Sharqiya Expressway Interchange 'Part 1' at about OMR3.7 million, and awarding several tenders related to additional works for projects that work has begun over the past years.

In the education sector, last year witnessed the awarding of a design and implementation project for 13 schools in various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, the awarding of a tender for the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment and civil maintenance at Sultan Qaboos University for two years, and the replacement of old air-conditioning devices for schools of the Ministry of Education. The sector also witnessed the awarding of a tender for a contract extension. for teachers in vocational colleges affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in addition to several other tenders.

The culture sector witnessed the awarding of a tender for the provision of advisory services for the management and supervision of the Oman Cultural Complex project and the building of the National Records and Archives Authority at a value of OMR5.2 million, and the project of upgrading the Museum of Frankincense Land Museum in Dhofar Governorate at a value of OMR129,000.

The information technology sector was among the main sectors that enjoyed a large share of the tenders that were awarded through the Tender Board during the year 2022. In addition to the tender for the supply, design and installation of the government financial system, last year witnessed the awarding of a tender for the supply of computers for schools affiliated with the Ministry of Education and the General Secretariat of the Tender Board. with a value of OMR9.2 million, and the expansion of the automatic tax system in the tax authority with an amount of OMR5.8 million.

Transportation, communications and information technology for two years, hosting and operating electronic systems for the elections of members of municipal councils and the elections of members of the Shura Council, and technical infrastructure works for the "Invest in Oman" hall project and the project of mini-certificates in advanced digital skills.

In the airports' sector, the renovation and rehabilitation of parts of the corridors and aprons for aircraft parking at Muscat International Airport was awarded at a value of OMR3.9 million, and additional works on a project to supply and install five weather radars for the Public Authority for Civil Aviation at a value of OMR785,000.
