Campaign for early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases to be launched in Oman

Muscat: The national campaign for early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) will be launched on Sunday, targeting everyone above 35 years of age.

As a result of rising cases, the Ministry of Health will launch the 'Check and assured programme' for early detection of NCDs.

These diseases are called silent killers as they may not be accompanied by any symptoms. Early detection is the key to prevention as in many cases late discovery may lead to serious complications.

The Ministry stated that the examinations for early detection of diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic kidney failure, obesity and high cholesterol will be available at all primary healthcare institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health, starting from January 1, for all those aged above 35 years, and it also indicated that those under that age having any symptoms can visit the nearest health institution for evaluation and tests, if necessary.

The ministry indicated that the tests to detect chronic diseases include an examination of height, weight, and blood pressure, in addition to laboratory tests including blood glucose test, lipid test and creatinine test to measure the kidney function, and urine test.

The ministry indicated that those who have got negative results in tests will be required to re-examine after three years.
