Muscat: A door made from palm fronds and recycled material in the Sultanate of Oman has entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest door made from recycled material.
Forty-two workers participated in weaving the door for six months, Khaled Al Khalifin, CEO of Oman PVC, said adding that “we started preparing for the project two years ago, and the work continued for 6 months, including two weeks when work stretched to 24 hours each day. The door was made from 3,888 kg of wood waste (palm fronds and plastic) and 5,372 kg of scrap iron. The total weight of the door is 9,260 kg with a length of 21 meters and a width of six meters.”
The door was made on the occasion of the Sultanate’s celebrations of the 52nd Glorious National Day. The shape of the door is inspired by the ancient Omani heritage. There are 2 small doors within the door inspired by the door of Nizwa Castle. The decoration of the nose of the door has been inspired by the door of the house of Sheikh Al-Allama Judge Saud bin Humaid Al Khalifan.
Oman PVC is the only factory around the world that produces doors from palm leaves and recycled material.
