Municipal council winners in Oman vow to fulfil HM the Sultan’s vision
Elected Municipal Council representatives promise to meet the expectations of people.

Muscat: Winners of the Municipal Council elections said they will work hard to fulfil His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s vision and dreams for the people of the Sultanate of Oman.

Abdullah Yahya Al Jabri, who won from the Wilayat of Sohar in North Al Batinah Governorate, said: “We pledge to His Majesty the Sultan that we will work to achieve the goals of Oman Vision 2040.”

Thanking the voters, he said, “I will work and live up to the expectations of the people of Oman and Sohar and serve our ancient wilayat.”

For the first time, 696 candidates, including 27 women, contested the elections that took place through the “I vote” application on smartphones, for 126 seats distributed among 11 municipal councils of 11 governorates in the Sultanate, which includes 63 wilayats.

Saeed Ahmed Al-Shehri, the representative of the Wilayat of Salalah in Dhofar Governorate, said: “Thank you for the votes. Thanks to everyone who voted for me, supported me, were beside me and gave me confidence.  It is good to get elected for the municipal council, and God will help and support us to be successful in our endeavour.”

Saud bin Saeed Al-Ma’awali, who will be representing the Wilayat of Wadi Al-Ma’awli in Al Batinah South Governorate, said: “Thanks to all the people of the wilayat, for their precious trust reposed in me. With the grace of God Almighty, I was crowned with success and chosen as a representative of the wilayat for the third term 2023-2027. We ask God Almighty to grant strength to serve Oman and its leader.”

Al-Maawali stressed that he will work hard to justify his mandate and transfer the requests of the people to the specialists related to municipal matters.

Nasr bin Yousef Al-Farisi, representing the Wilayat of Saham in North Al-Batinah Governorate, also said: “I extend my greetings to all those who voted for me with sincere feelings of love and pride by giving me their confidence in the elections for the municipal council for the session (2022-2027).

He also said: “Election Day was a historic day in the march of our beloved Oman. I extend my thanks to every voter who voted for me or others and expressed their awareness, responsibility and duty towards our dear country and our Sultan.”
