GCC officials tasked with drafting plans hold meeting

Muscat: Sessions of the 24th annual meeting of technical officials tasked with preparing plans in GCC states kicked off at Grand Millennium Muscat on Wednesday.

The two-day meeting, organised by the Ministry of Economy, was attended by Dr. Nasser Rashid Al Ma’awali, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, and a large turnout of representatives of government departments concerned.

Dr. Nasser Al Ma’awali hailed the efforts made in accomplishing transition in GCC economies. Since the 1960s, GCC countries incorporated developmental planning at the heart of their economic and social march, so that the member states could achieve unprecedented growth and success.

A recent World Bank report indicates that the aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) of the GCC states is expected to touch $2 trillion by the end of 2022, he said.

In his speech, Dr. Nasser stressed GCC states’ great interest in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) endorsed by the United Nations. The bloc’s attention stems from a keen desire to achieve welfare and prosperity for its respective peoples, he said.

Towards that goal, the GCC states exerted efforts in drafting policies, programmes and plans to promote the region politically, economically, socially and environmentally, Dr. Nasser concluded.
