Oman environment: Muttrah sea water littered with waste

Muscat: Joggers and strollers have called for immediate efforts to clean the Muttrah Corniche saying that litter dents the beautiful image of the area.
Many say trash finds its way into the sea during weekends or holidays when the area is overcrowded.
“Yes, it was Friday,” Anwar Sultan, a regular jogger at the Corniche told the Times of Oman. “I had not noticed it earlier. I do go there often.”
Despite efforts by the Muscat Municipality to curb littering and constant reminders from the authorities, visitors to the Corniche in Muttrah are often found throwing trash into the water.
Cruise liners
As foreign tourists from cruise liners visit the area regularly, particularly Muttrah Souq, these waste in sea water present a bad picture in their minds about the area. For attracting toursits, it should be ensured that the area is neat and clean.
