Details of the first Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival revealed
The Oman Film and Theater Society revealed the details of the Al Sharqiyah International Film Festival in its first session, which is scheduled to be held in the Wilayat of Sur from January 11 to 14, 2023.
Dr. Hamid Al-Amiri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Film and Theater Society said in a press conference held in the Wilayat of Sur: “Al Sharqiya International Film Festival - which is the fourth stop - is a continuation of a series of international festivals launched by the Society with the aim of spreading cinematic culture throughout the governorates and encouraging young people to make films. "
"Through the success achieved by these festivals, it was necessary to strive towards their continuation because of their benefits for those working in cinema in the Sultanate of Oman, exchanging cultures with workers from other countries, learning about their cinematic experiences, and increasing and promoting the artistic movement in the country. " Al-Amiri added.
Anwar Al-Ruzaiqi, director of the festival, explained during the conference that the festival’s management had previously announced the film competitions that will be included in the festival, for which registration is still available until the 19th of this month. These include the Omani and international short narrative film competition and the Omani and international short documentary competition.
The organisers of the festival confirmed the existence of a number of cinematic events accompanying the screenings of the competition films, which are holding a symposium entitled “Cinema and Architecture” presented by a group of specialists in cinema and architecture, a workshop on script writing presented by Saudi director Hana Al-Omair, and a workshop on cinematography presented by Bahraini director and photographer Jan Al Balushi.
The festival also includes dialogue sessions with the Kuwaiti artist Saad Al-Faraj to talk about his artistic biography, a dialogue session with the Jordanian artist Suhair Fahd and talk about working in cartoon films, and another session with the Omani photographer Haitham Al-Farsi and presenting the experience of the Senyar series of films. During the festival, a number of Omani, Gulf and Arab artists will be honoured.
Directorate General of Education in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate celebrates International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The Directorate General of Education in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, represented by the Department of Special Education and Continuous Learning, celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which falls on December 3 of each year, via video communication.
Badriya bint Nasser Al-Araimi, Assistant Director-General for Education Affairs, said that the celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, which was set by the United Nations on the 3rd of December of each year, came to shed light on the issues of persons with disabilities and concern for their abilities, talents and creativity, and also to highlight legislation and laws to adapt to their needs.
The ceremony included a visual presentation on the special education programs in Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, "Tamkin and Development", and the presentation of working papers entitled Hearing Disability between Classifications and Causes, Make my way easier and Speech and language disorders among integration students.
Wilayat of Ibra celebrates Omani Volunteer Day
The Directorate General of Social Development in the Governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and North Al Sharqiyah , in cooperation with the Omani Women Association in Ibra, organised a ceremony for Omani women associations in the governorate’s wilayats on the occasion of the Omani Volunteer Day, which falls on the 5th of December of each year.
Dr. Mana'a bin Rashid Al Barashdi, Assistant Director General of the Directorate General of Social Development in North Al Sharqiyah, said, "The Ministry of Social Development seeks to develop volunteer work through civil society institutions, and is working hard to organize voluntary civil efforts through charitable associations and institutions."
"Omani women associations in the Sultanate of Oman play a prominent role in spreading the culture of voluntary work, awareness and guidance, in addition to activating women’s participation in voluntary social work, and activating their role to take their place within the development programmes in the Sultanate of Oman, " Al Barashdi added.
Intisar bin Salim Al-Maskaria from the Omani Women Association in Ibra said that the Omani Women associations in the governorate implemented many activities on the occasion of the Omani Volunteer Day, the most important of which are service labour camps and field visits in villages, population centers and the school environment, through which they aimed to serve the community and spread the culture of volunteer work and strengthen partnership between civil society institutions and government institutions.
The programme of the ceremony included the presentation of various activities with the participation of Omani women associations in the two governorates, including patriotic poems, in addition to presenting an operetta about volunteer work, a meaningful theatrical show, and a song about volunteering.
The ceremony also included a visual presentation on the most important activities carried out on the occasion of the Omani Volunteer Day, as well as a variety of Omani singing arts, and honoring the participants and contributors to the success of the event.
The event was sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Dr. Khalaf bin Salim Al-Ishaqi, the Wali of Ibra, in the presence of a number of officials and those interested in volunteer work.
