2. Oman bans abalone fishing during 2022 and 2023

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources has issued a ministerial decision No.241/2022 banning the fishing, collection, possession and dealing with Omani abalone during the hunting seasons of 2022 and 2023.

The first article of the decision stipulates that hunting and collecting abalone is prohibited during the hunting seasons of 2022 and 2023. Possession, processing and dealing in abalone are also prohibited during the aforementioned prohibition period. Dealing includes transport, sale, purchase, export, and all related activity related to hunting and trading in abalone.

The second article said that the quantities of abalone harvested in the seasons prior to the issuance of this decision, which was registered with the fisheries departments affiliated to the Ministry, are excluded from the ban. Dealing in these quantities shall be according to permits issued by the competent authority to the concerned parties.
