Muscat: The Frankincense Season event which is organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has been launched in Dhofar Governorate on Monday, November 28, 2022.
The Frankincense Season event organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism was launched yesterday evening in the Dhofar Governorate at the sites of the Land of Frankincense in Al Baleed Archaeological Park, Samhram Archaeological Park and Wadi Doka Nature Reserve.
The occasion was sponsored by His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of Khalid bin Abdullah Al Abri, Director General of the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, and a number of officials.
The 5-day frankincense season event includes a set of programmes and activities, including an exhibition of Omani frankincense products with the participation of a number of companies specialised in manufacturing and producing Omani frankincense derivatives, and a documentary photo exhibition (Wildlife in Khor Rori).
A group of activities accompanying the frankincense season will also be organised, including the “Drawing Frankincense Caravans, History and Civilization” competition, children’s theater activities, food cart parking, and the experience of picnic boats in Khor Al-Baleed. In addition to planting 1000 frankincense trees in Wadi Doka Reserve on 2nd December, in celebration of the inclusion of the sites of the Land of Frankincense on the list of the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization “UNESCO”.
The frankincense season also includes presenting a workshop (the experience of the Dhofar University Research Center in extracting Omani frankincense) and a live presentation of how to manufacture its products and extracts, ancient and modern, in addition to simulating the mechanism of exporting it through the historical ports in the Dhofar Governorate by caravans.
This season's event aims to highlight the historical features of the sites of the land of frankincense and the civilized roles it played by building bridges of cultural and commercial exchange with various ancient civilizations of the world, as well as enhancing the tourist flow during the winter season.
