Muscat: The deadline for receiving entries for the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design will be on Thursday, December 1, 2022.

Entries for the Bilarab Bin Haitham Award for Architectural Design are continuing to be received until Thursday. Its second session was devoted to competing for the design of the Museum of Maritime History in the Wilayat of Sur in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, on a land area of 14,154 square metres.

Entries are received through the award's website www.bha.om, and through the registration window and the attachment of participation files.

The stage of receiving the entries is the first stage of the award, in which the participants attach explanatory files with pictures and descriptions of the project idea, after which the submitted entries are subject to sorting. Then the jury selects the 30 best projects and provides the selected teams with feedback to improve their projects, after which the 10 best projects are selected to compete for the first positions in the second round of the award.

The award jury determined the selection criteria, which are the design’s inclusion of technical features , the buildability of the project idea, the idea’s keeping pace with international projects in the museum sector, and its sustainable impact in environmental, social or economic aspects.

Participation is open to Omanis who do not exceed 35 years of age, who specialize in architectural design, urban planning, and the fields of architecture. It is also possible to participate individually or collectively for a maximum of three people.

The award was launched on the 10th of last October, and the selection of the design project for the Museum of Maritime History in the Wilayat of Sur was based on the royal order of His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik with the aim of celebrating, documenting and transmitting the Omani maritime glories to future generations. The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
