Emir of Kuwait honours Omani  CEO with prestigious award
This recognition comes for his efforts to establish the first financial technology company in the Sultanate of Oman, and to provide innovative products that serve the business sector and individuals alike.

Muscat: His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Emir of the sisterly State of Kuwait, honoured Engineer Majed Al Amiri, founder and CEO of Thawani Technologies Company, for winning His Highness Sheikh Salem Al Ali Al Sabah Informatics Award at its twenty-first session (2021) in the category of Excellence in Smart Financial Solutions.

This recognition comes for his efforts to establish the first financial technology company in the Sultanate of Oman, and to provide innovative products that serve the business sector and individuals alike. The award came at its twenty-first session under the title ‘Excellence in Technologies and Their Uses’, where the Award Authority announced the victory of four contestants for this award from the State of Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and the Sultanate of Oman, and the medal was awarded to the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.

In a press release, the Authority said, “The informatics awards were won by a group of distinguished technicians who distinguished themselves by using advanced smart digital technologies in the field of artificial intelligence and the Internet, in addition to providing innovative community services.”

It stated that the winners from the State of Kuwait are Dr. Abdullah Al-Mutawa, an academic at Kuwait University, for his distinction in the field of artificial intelligence, and Engineer Muhammad Al-Doub, for his excellence in information security, and from the United Arab Emirates, the Dubai Health Authority, for its excellence in smart health solutions, and from the Sultanate of Oman, Engineer Majid Al-Amiri, for his excellence in the field of financial technologies.

Eng. Majed Al-Amiri confirmed the importance of this award in developing informational skills and culture among institutions and individuals, as it comes in line with the recent global technological developments in the field of technology, so that it has become the strategic choice for progress and fuelling the spirit of competition, excellence and innovation in the field of information technology.

Pointing out that this honour comes in conjunction with the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations of its eighteenth National Day on the glorious November 18th, and that this honour is a mandate to exert more effort and development; to build digital products that serve humanity, and to achieve greater achievements on a global level, placing the Sultanate of Oman at the forefront of countries exporting innovations related to the financial technology sector.

He thanked the award organising committee for its appreciation and interest in honouring entrepreneurs in the innovation and technology sectors.

Eng. Majed explained that Thawani Technologies was established in 2016 and its system was designed and developed in accordance with the highest international standards followed in card security, and the Thawani platform has become the most prominent electronic platform for completing financial transactions in the Sultanate of Oman.

It provides innovative payment solutions based on the science of financial technology, to facilitate the payment process and improve beneficiary experiences and make it safer and faster. The company also provides through its platform bill payment services, recharge the balance, pay tuition fees, and social insurance.

It may be noted that His Highness Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award is the first of its kind in the Arab world. It seeks to develop human capabilities in the field of informatics development and to consolidate the role of community institutions to keep pace with informational development.

It aims to improve information skills and various innovations, prepare youth to contribute to the development of information culture, develop and highlight Arabic digital content, activate the role of information culture in society, benefit from information technology by insight into important community issues, educate society about sound information practices, and increase the degree of community readiness for digital interaction.
