Towards building an academic environment that appreciates the spirit of scientific enquiry and innovation, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Modern College of Business and Science (MCBS) organized an International Conference on “Innovation in Information Technology and Business” on 9th and 10th November 2022.
The hybrid mode of the event started with a grand opening ceremony in Hormuz Grand Hotel at Seeb, Muscat. Dr Moosa Al Kindi, Dean, MCBS delivered the inaugural speech, followed by two keynote speakers. H.E. Dr. Ali Bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology delivered the keynote address on “Digital economy in Oman - Strategies and opportunities”. Dr. Ahmed Al Maashri, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Sultan Qaboos University delivered the keynote speech on “The Role of Academia in Upskilling Students in IR4 Technologies”.
The conference mainly focused on innovative ideas, approaches, research, and developments in the areas of Models and algorithms for Business, Business Data Science Applications, and Data Science Challenges. More than 50 speakers from several countries presented their research findings at this conference either face to face or virtually. There were three invited talks by Dr. Haider al Lawati (University of Toronto, Canada), Dr Philip Thomson (KPMG Consultant, Australia), and Dr. Vahab Iran Manish (University of Isle, UK). Many meritorious students also found a place at this conference. They presented their research findings at the conference to make the event extremely successful.
The conference concluded with the closing remarks by the Dean, Dr Moosa Al Kindi, and the Conference Committee Chairs Prof Mani Joseph and Dr Hothefa Shaker. The conference was sponsored by Global Computers (Globcom),Oman and OSOS, Oman. The event was overwhelmingly successful and was appreciated by all the participants.
