Muscat : The Dhofar Governorate is preparing excitedly for the 52nd National Day of the Sultanate of Oman, an important event of which will be the military parade under the patronage of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, on Friday, November 18 at Al Nasr Square in Salalah.
His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, said: “This glorious national occasion is an opportunity to learn about the progress and developments that have been made in various sectors in the Governorate in particular and the Sultanate in general.”
“Many government institutions are working to launch a number of development projects during the coming period ranging from health and tourism to the logistical sectors, with an aim to ensure comprehensive and sustainable development,” he added.
On decentralisation and the governorate system, His Highness stressed the importance of the new system which seeks to ensure a mechanism for better governance on the one hand and integration between different entities, on the other. The resources available in each governorate could benefit all others, he said.
The Governor of Dhofar clarified that the governorate is rich in its tourism potential, particularly because of the Dhofar Autumn season.
He stressed the importance of adopting the executive projects document for urban strategy in the Governorate of Dhofar and the work of laying the structure of Greater Salalah which will contribute to enhancing the geography of many projects in different sectors.
These measures, he said, will promote decentralisation, development, sustainability and integration of the governorates.
On the role of youth and the benefits of their inclusion in the development of the Sultanate, His Highness Sayyid Marwan said this partnership between society and the youth got enhanced with the enshrinement of Oman Vision 2040, and was further reinforced by the participation of the youth in strategies adopted by the Sultanate including the urban strategy in the governorate.
He said the involvement of the youth in innovations and decision-making could never be over-stressed.
Regarding the efforts and contributions of the media, the Governor of Dhofar referred to the massive growth of the official media, besides opening of new channels so that they could together contribute to the growth of partnership in conceptualising, establishing and putting forward new ideas that could be implemented.
Regarding the most important development projects in the Governorate of Dhofar, His Highness said the investment sector spawns many vital sectors, including tourism, logistical and industrial fields, besides food security, in accordance with Oman Vision 2040.
During his speech, His Highness the Governor of Dhofar touched on food security sector in the Governorate of Dhofar and the role of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in developing the Najd region as an integrated system that helps marketing of various agricultural products.
His Highness the Governor of Dhofar also referred to the development projects in the tourism sector, the logistics sector, including the Salalah Airport, and efforts to strengthen the shipping side and linking it to the port and the Salalah Free Zone.
Regarding the citizen’s role, His Highness the Governor said the first role is conveying the message to them about the ways to benefit from the projects and strategies in a simplified way.
