Muscat: Here is what is happening across the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

Labour Ministry conducts employment tests for jobs in Dhofar Governorate

The Ministry of Labour conducted employment tests for a number of jobs in the Governorate of Dhofar at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Salalah, which lasted for two days.

A number of male and female job seekers, who are candidates for 77 job opportunities, have met the specified conditions in a number of units in the Governorate of Dhofar, with various qualifications (university, diploma, general education diploma), compete in the tests.

These tests are part of the Sahem initiative, which provides jobs for Omani youth in government agencies in various governorates.

Masar forum activities begin in North Al Batinah Governorate

The Directorate General of Culture, Sports and Youth in the North Al Batinah Governorate organised a two-day forum in the Sports Complex in the Wilayat of Sohar, entitled “Masar”.

 A number of members of youth committees and media centres in sports clubs participated in the forum, in addition to those responsible for activities and events in government institutions and higher education institutions from universities and colleges in the Sultanate of Oman.

The forum includes the presentation of a number of workshops and training meetings in several areas, including the foundations of organising events and community initiatives from idea to application, in addition to thinking and marketing design and the role of modern media in highlighting events and activities.

The forum aims to provide participants with event management skills and prepare a successful action plan for its management and organisation, as well as strengthening communication channels with media and academic institutions.

Al Batinah International Film Festival inaugurated in Wilayat of Sohar

The Al Batinah International Film Festival, organised by the Omani Society for Cinema and Theatre, has opened in the Wilayat of Sohar, in the North Al Batinah Governorate. The festival will continue till November 15.

The inauguration was held under the patronage of His Excellency Mohammed bin Sulaiman Al Kindi, Governor of North Al Batinah, in the presence of His Excellency Abdullah bin Saud Al Anzi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, and a number of guests, artists, directors and cinema lovers.

During the festival, Omani actress Fakhriya Khamis, chairperson of the Narrative Film Committee, Emirati artist Dr Hussein Amiri, Moroccan artist Jihan Kamal, Saudi director Dr Misfer Al-Mousa, head of the documentary film jury. The two Omani directors Sulaiman Al-Khalili and Salah Al-Hadrami were also honoured during the festival.

A number of Omani artists and film directors from the governorates of North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah were also honoured for their efforts in producing artworks and their continuous support for art and artists, including: Saleh Zaal, Fakhriya Khamis, Muhammad Nour, Ibrahim Al Zadjali, Ibrahim Al Balushi, Maryam Al Mamariya, Yousef Al Balushi, Faris Al Balushi, Ahmed Al Owaini, Naima Abdullah Al Balushi and filmmaker Abdullah Habib.

Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ajmi, director of the festival, said the organisation of the Al-Batinah International Film Festival for Short Films in its first session in the state of Sohar, comes from the belief in the role of the Omani Society for Cinema and Theatre in spreading cinematic culture through the establishment of film festivals, and creating an attractive environment for filmmakers and able to interact with societal issues, and hosting filmmakers from different countries of the world.

In addition to Oman, 13 countries are participating in the festival's competition which are the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Iraq, Iran, Mauritania, Syria, Algeria and Bangladesh.

The number of films eligible to participate in the festival is 38, including 11 documentaries, 20 feature films, and seven documentaries on the theme of Omanis' relationship with the sea.
