Just along from the iconic Royal Opera House, and set in lush green gardens, the Arches Fountain, styled on the arches of the opera house, has been completed by Muscat Municipality.
The Arches Fountain project serves the dual purpose of beautification and development.
It is a part of the development taking place along Sultan Qaboos Street, including the improvement of the road system leading up to the Royal Opera House in Al Sarooj area.
The fountain will be operational from 6am until midnight and is made of “duplex,” a mixture of stainless steel and iron. The structure stands 12 metres high and weighs 15 tonnes.
Modern technology is employed to reduce water and energy consumption. It also has an automatic operating system to control the movement and flow of water.
Water from the fountain can be released in different shapes – a palm leaf and the pattering of rain – to name a few.
The fountain will also make use of different colours such as that of the national flag’s green, red and white. The municipality added that the completion of the Arches Fountain Project had coincided with the implementation of afforestation and beautification works in the surrounding area.
