8th Omani Dates Festival starts today

Muscat: The activities of the 8th Omani Dates Festival kicked off today at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, and will continue until November 6, under the patronage of His Excellency Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.

The Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources said: The festival is considered the largest agricultural event in the Sultanate of Oman and highlights the most important agricultural product in the Sultanate of Oman (dates). The eighth edition of the festival includes many events, art competitions and a photo exhibition in the palm axis, and for children there is a theatre that presents shows and cartoon characters, a corner for games and colouring, and many events accompanying the festival.

A number of farmers, producers and owners of dates processing units from various governorates of Oman will participate in the festival to display varieties of Omani dates and their derivatives in innovative and modern marketing methods and methods.

 The exhibition, organised by the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, in cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, aims to promote Omani date products, attract visitors and tourists to introduce the types of Omani dates, and encourage producers and farmers to take care of palm trees and preserve them.

 Among the activities of the eighth Omani Dates Festival 2022, the winners of the photography competition (palms and dates) were announced after a temporary hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the competition is one of the pillars of the Omani Dates Festival organised by the Ministry in cooperation with the Omani Society for Arts in the Ministry Culture, sports and youth. Photographer Mohammed bin Hamdan bin Salem Al-Hajri won first place with a picture titled 'The Seller of Dates', while photographer Majid bin Obaid Al-Amri won second place with a picture titled 'The Joy of the Season'. Photographer Ghassan bin Salem bin Sultan Al-Hajri won third place with a picture titled 'Boil the dates'.
