Muscat: The civil camel racing competitions in the Wilayat of Thumrait, which are organised by the Royal Camel in the Affairs of the Royal Court, started today, as part of its annual programme in the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.
A number of camel owners and breeders in the Governorate of Dhofar will participate in the six-day competition. The civil camel races in Thumrait include holding three main competitions, starting with the two-day “Muhalaba” competition, and the “Al-Mazaina” competition, which will be held for four days, while the events will conclude with the competitive race that will be held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Muhalaba competitions will be divided into three categories: the Omani camel category, the belted camel category, and the tax camel category. Each category is allocated three runs and the amount of milk is measured by the scale, and prizes are distributed to the camel owners who ranked first to the 10th.
