Muscat: Oman's National Transport Company, Mwasalat announced that it would be reducing fares by 20 percent as soon as Ramadan begins.
According to a statement by the company, “Mwasalat will reduce fares for intercity services by 20 percent, reduce advertisement service rates by 50 percent, and extend the services until midnight inside cities in Muscat, Salalah and Sohar during the month of Ramadan.
“This comes from Mwasalat’s care in encouraging everyone, especially citizens, to make use of the company’s services, and to ease traffic during the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement added.
Mwasalat’s service timings will also change for city routes, as the earliest bus route will begin operating at 6:40 AM and will run routes until midnight. As for intercity services, the timings for Muscat-Salalah routes, Muscat-Barka routes, and Mucat-Rustaq routes during the period will change, and one extra Muscat-Dubai trip will be scheduled each day.
When an online user asked Mwasalat about the change in his ticket fare, the company answered, “Welcome! One way trips are OMR6 now, while return tickets will cost you OMR10.”
Mwasalat added that using its services “will lead to more social integration, since public transportation allows a sense of unity to be created between different segments of society including the elderly, students, and people with disabilities.”
