Muscat: In affirmation of its role in the fishing industry, Fisheries Development Oman (FDO) participates in Oman Maritime Confex, which is being held at Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre from October 24 to 26, under the patronage of Dr Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agricultural, Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, along with the participation of many local and global companies to offer their products and services and to share experiences in maritime aspects.
Oman Maritime Confex aims to enhance Oman as a global destination in the maritime industry, raising its prominence in developing the national economy, and linking the various economic sectors related to the maritime industry.
FDO participates as one of the Confex sponsors for being the arm of the government in fisheries investments in Oman. In addition, it is a specialised group working on the development of the commercial fishing industry and sustainable aquaculture, as per Oman Investment Authority policies which encourage many industries.
Through the Confex, FDO is seeking to promote its products in both local and global markets, share experiences and encourage investments in economic industries related to the maritime aspect to meet “Oman Vision 2040” aiming at optimising fishery resources, along with creating investment opportunities that promote economic development.
International experts and speakers from different entities related to the maritime industry will preview their experiences. Among the most important aspects to be discussed in the Confex are the blue economy and sustainable growth aspect, states’ challenges in implementing blue economy strategies and investment opportunities in blue economy sectors. In addition, experiences of successful countries will be presented, as well as discuss strategies of economic cross-sectoral integration related to the blue economy.
Discussions of challenges and opportunities facing activities related to the maritime industry and marine tourism will be held. The Confex will also be accompanied by several specialised workshops.
It is worth noting that this unique event is organised to focus on the importance of maritime resources as sustainable resources, that can contribute to the development of various economic maritime industries, along with promoting the strategic location of the Sultanate of Oman through a Confex combining all different sectors, industries and activities under one umbrella and discussing challenges and solutions by attracting experts to discuss emerging topics on the international arena in the maritime industries.
