Muscat: With the participation of 43 contestants from different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the third Arabian Gulf Mountain Running Championship was held on Friday, in the Wilayat of Al Hamra in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. It was organised by the Department of Culture, Sports and Youth in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, in cooperation with the “Hiking Oman” team.
The competition started from the town of Misfat al-Abriyyin to the eastern mountain of the Wilayat of Al-Hamra for a distance of 16km. The competition results are as follows: Sami Al-Saidi bagged the first place, Saleh Al-Saeedi came second, and Ghaith Al-Saeedi came third.
Ahmed bin Muhammad Al Harasi, Director of Culture, Sports and Youth Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said that the aim of this tournament is to familiarise the participants with the aspects of tourism and with the ancient ways that parents and grandparents used to travel between mountain villages.
The conclusion ceremony of the tournament was sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Jamal bin Ahmed Al-Abri, member of the Shura Council and representative of the Wilayat of Al Hamra.
