Muscat: Musandam, the northern governorate of Oman, is facing acute shortage of cooking gas after a massive fire destroyed the main gas supplying company in the area.
On June 7, the Public Authority for Civil Defence reported a fire that engulfed a cooking gas company in the wilayat of Madha.
The fire was put out by firefighters. Only one person was slightly injured.
Since then, gas supply to more than 42,000 people has been stopped.
Ahmed Al Kamzari, assistant director of Daba Municipality said that he is left with only one cooking gas cylinder in his home.
“There is another supplier in Khasab but it can’t provide enough gas for the populated neighborhoods,” he said, adding that Musandam municipal council members has promised to solve the issue.
Residents of Musandam complained on social media about the shortage of cooking gas, urging authorities to quickly solve the issue as more than 20 days have passed since the fire took place.
