Oman sees over 500 violations of Living Aquatic Resources Law in September

Muscat: The number of violations of the Living Aquatic Resources Law that were monitored by the Ministry of Agricultural and Fisheries Wealth and Water Resources, represented by the Department of Fisheries Control and Licensing, during the month of September, reached 569.

Oman News Agency reported: The number of violations were distributed between not extracting, renewing or holding licences to practice, boats, ships, transport and marketing (340), using or possessing prohibited fishing equipment and devices (37), and hunting or possessing lobster outside the season, or hunting young lobster loaded with eggs, two violations.

 Fishing or possessing shrimp outside the season came with (5) violations, and (121) due to fishing in prohibited areas and not placing plates on boats and ships (31) violations, (10) violations for hiring unlicensed expatriate workers, and (23) other violation related to fishing activity.

The Department of Fisheries Control and Licensing managed during the month of September to confiscate (10560) kilograms of fish, and recorded (355) of the seizures/reserved items, including (13) boats/vessels, (13) engines and one equipment, and (279) fishing nets, (12) cages and (37) of the expatriate workforce.
