Kerala fish seller wins lottery hours after attachment notice on his house

New Delhi: Pukunju, a fish seller from Kollam, South Indian state of Kerala, won INR70 lakh in the state government Akshaya lottery scheme.

The interesting part is that just hours before he won the lottery, bank officials had pasted an attachment notice on his house for not paying his home loans. He could not pay his home loan due to his addiction to buying lottery tickets. On October 12 while going to buy fish, due to his addiction, he again bought a lottery ticket.

While Pukunju was on his way at around 2pm, his wife called him and told him about the bank’s attachment notice. Both got frustrated and were searching for ways to save their house from confiscation by the bank. But as luck smiled on them, at 3.30pm he got the news that he had won INR70 lakh in the lottery. He said that he had bought the lottery ticket on his wife’s advice. After winning the lottery he said that he will pay back all his loans including half a million taken from his father.

Pukunju, who used to earn his livelihood by selling fish, said that he will invest the lottery money after paying off his debt to secure his children's future and will ensure that his children get a good education.
