Royal decree approves establishment of Oman Sustainability Centre

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik approved the year 2050 as the date for achieving zero carbon neutrality, preparing a national plan to reach that goal, and establishing the Oman Sustainability Centre to supervise and follow up on carbon neutrality plans and programmes.

From September 25 until October 15, 2022, the work of the "Carbon Management Laboratory" was launched by the organisation of the Follow-up Unit for the Implementation of Oman 2040 Vision and the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and in cooperation with the Environment Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The laboratory aims to find a comprehensive national strategy and an operational plan for net zero emissions, in line with development objectives in various sectors. This is in line with the Oman Vision 2040, which aims to create effective, balanced and resilient ecosystems to protect the environment and the sustainability of its natural resources.
