Seeb Club made Oman proud: Sayyid Shihab
His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, President, Seeb Club

Muscat: A day after Seeb Club wrote a historic chapter in Sultanate of Oman’s club football history by winning the AFC Cup West Zone final to secure a place in the 2022 AFC Cup final, His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, the club president, said “it was a proud moment for Oman.”

Seeb trounced Al Riffa Club of Bahrain 4-0 at the Seeb Sports Stadium to become the first-ever Omani club to emerge as AFC West Zone champions. They also become the first Omani club to reach the AFC Cup final, Asia’s second-best club competition after the Asian Champions League.

Sayyid Shihab said, “I am very proud and very happy of my club’s performance. They made history for Oman. I thank the players, coaches, administrative staff and board members of the club for the result. To become champions of West Asia is a big achievement. We now go to play the final of AFC Cup and I hope the boys play to their best.”

Seeb is on the verge of historic quadruple, having won the Omantel League title, His Majesty’s Cup and the OFA Super Cup this year. Seeb will now meet the winner of Inter-Zonal final between Uzbekistan’s PFC Sogdiana and Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur City FC for title glory on October 22. The winner of Inter-Zonal final will host the summit clash.

Sayyid Shihab expressed his thanks to the football fans of Oman for their huge support and said that the club was looking for more glory in the future. “We would like to excel at the Asian level and this is the start of our journey,” he added.

Sayyid Shihab thanked the Ministry of Sports Affairs, Royal Oman Police and other organisations in facilitating the smooth hosting of the AFC West Zone final and the group stage round earlier in May.

“It was a big honour for Seeb and Oman to host the prestigious tournament group stage and final in Oman. This was the first time that any Oman club had hosted the West Zone final. I am glad that it was held successfully.”
