Oman, India enjoy strategic relations: Minister

Muscat : V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs of India dubbed the relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of India as “strong” and “strategic”.

In a statement , the minister said that the Omani and Indian cooperation in economic, trade and investment fields has been accorded with a high priority.

He added that economic and commercial relations between India and Oman have been robust. It is evident in the bilateral trade between the two countries, touching almost USD 10 billion in 2021-2022. He explained that there are over 6000 India-Oman joint ventures in Oman with an estimated investment of over USD 7.5 billion.

The minister said, “The respective visions of India and Oman also align closely when it comes to deployment of new and renewable energy. Oman’s push to position itself as a leading hub of green hydrogen and green ammonia intertwines with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission.”

He pointed out that the strategic priorities identified within Oman Vision 2040 also align closely with the known strengths of the Indian economy.

He added that there are significant opportunities for enhancing the bilateral cooperation in several sectors including renewable energy, defence, maritime security, minerals and mining, manufacturing, space and logistics.

The Indian Minister of State for External Affairs concluded his statement by saying, “The Sultanate of Oman will be a special guest during meetings of the G-20 Summit scheduled to be held in India in September 2023. This will be an excellent opportunity for the Sultanate of Oman to participate in the premier intergovernmental forum of the world's major developed and developing economies.”
