Carbon Management Lab holds knowledge transfer sessions

Muscat: The Carbon Management Laboratory (CML) held a set of knowledge transfer sessions benefiting the departments concerned. A number of government institutions and private sector enterprises presented working papers on the management of carbon emissions, energy transformation and transfer of their experiences in the field.

The sessions are organised by Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Minerals—in cooperation with the Environment Authority and Civil Aviation Authority.

The CML aims to find a comprehensive national strategy and a uniform operational plan for net zero emissions, in line with development objectives in various sectors. It supports the strategic approach lending priority to the environment and natural resources within the context of Oman Vision 2040.

The CML also seeks to establish effective, balanced and resilient ecosystems to protect the environment and the sustainability of its natural resources as a measure to consolidate pillars of the national economy.

The participants took up major issues shorted-listed in the lab’s working papers, with a view to addressing common challenges faced by the four main sectors cited in the CML. The four sectors are named as follows: the “energy” sector (electricity, oil and gas), the “industry” sector, the “transport” sector and the “cities and buildings” sector.

The parties concerned will modernise their plans, strategies and policies and determine frameworks regulating the introduction of initiatives and projects serving the overall goal of the CML. They will set targets and follow-up methods for initiatives and projects scheduled to realise net zero emissions in a manner that responds to needs of growth in different vital sectors in Oman.
