Fixed internet subscription in Oman reaches 534,351

Muscat: The total number of fixed-telephone subscriptions connected to the Internet Protocol (IP) increased by 10.3 per cent at the end of August 2022, while the total number of fixed-Internet subscribers in the Sultanate of Oman reached about 534,351 subscribers, according to statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

Of this, total fixed telephone line subscriptions reached 569,551 until the end of August 2022, a decrease of 1.4 per cent compared to the end of August 2021. As for the analogue fixed telephone lines, which include prepaid and postpaid, the total amounted to 252,553 subscribers and the number of fixed telephone subscribers connected through the Internet Protocol reached 259,753.

Moreover, integrated services digital network (ISDN) channel subscriptions registered a slight increase of 0.9 per cent to reach 49,427 subscriptions, while the number of fixed wireless subscriptions decreased by 18 per cent at the end of August 2022.

The total number of mobile phone subscriptions increased by 11.9 per cent at the end of August 2022 to reach 6.56 million.

The total number of subscriptions to fixed broadband services (more than 256 kbit/s) reached 532,313, while the number of subscriptions via low-speed internet (less than 256 kbit/s), including dial-up and some leased Internet lines, reached 2,038.

The number of active mobile broadband Internet subscriptions reached 5,704,282 at the end of August 2022, while the total international capacity of the Internet reached 2,421,935 megabytes, an increase of 66.8 per cent for the same period in the previous year.

The number of leased local districts reached about 5,141 districts, while the number of telex line users settled at 116 subscriptions until August 2022.

The total international capacity of the Internet went up by 3.4 per cent to hit 1,461,777 megabytes compared to the same period in 2020.

Moreover, the number of local leased circuits reached 5,141, whereas the number of Telex line subscriptions stood at 116 until the end of August 2022.
