Muscat: InterContinental Muscat and IHG InterContinental Hotels Group - Oman are proud to announce that Viji Kunjachan, Area Director of Engineering, has been awarded as "Engineer of the year 2022" by Hotelier Middle East. The record-breaking 1,100 nominations were narrowed down to 230 shortlisted nominees from 18 countries to choose winners in each category. The Hotelier Middle East Awards 2022 was held at the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai on 8th Sep 2022 and saw 500 of the region’s very best hoteliers out in force.

Viji Kunjachan is a seasoned engineering professional with over three decades of proven results and a wide range of proficiencies relevant to the hospitality industry. 25 years of his 32 years long professional career in Middle East he worked with IHG InterContinental Hotels Group.

Gearing up on his accomplishment, he played a important role as Projects Manager and completed the major renovation of guest rooms and other public areas at a total investment value of USD 15 Million, which enhanced the guest experience. As a fast track project he led the team to complete the project as planned by 3 phases within 20 months without closure of the hotel facility. In all renovated areas and all 7 hotels he looks after in Oman, he achieved highest level of sustainability, reached Green Engage certification and goals through carbon footprint reduction and energy saving.

Viji initiated and installed drinking water plant units and glass bottles in two IHG hotels in Muscat to eliminate annually 770,000 plastic bottles as part of a plastic elimination campaign in year 2021. He has also taken initiative to install Electrical Vehicle charging centers for 7 IHG hotels in Oman as part of the environment commitment, global warming and Carbon foot reduction.
