Muscat: A luncheon was hosted by Ali Javed, Ambassador of Pakistan at ‘Pakistan House’ to award ‘Certificates of Appreciation’ for sponsors and organisers of ‘Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup’, Bilateral Hockey Series, which took place in Muscat, from September 9 to September 15.
The Ambassador acknowledged the immense contributions from Oman Hockey Association (OHA) and awarded Certificates of Appreciation to Captain Talib Khamis Al Wahaibi Chairman OHA, Dr. Khamis Al Rahbi, Secretary General OHA and Shakir Munir, Int’l Relations Manager & Performance Analyst as well as Goalkeeper Coach.
Certificates were also awarded to two prominent Pakistanis who had stepped forward as Platinum Sponsors of Oman Hockey Team and the Five-Match series titled ‘Stars Light -Syed Fayyaz Group 2017 Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup’ i.e., Yasin Bhatti, Partner ‘Stars Light’, specialising in electrical & mechanical contracting and Syed Fayyaz Shah, whose ‘Syed Fayyaz Group’ excels in Real Estate and Marine Services. Both are also members of Overseas Pakistani Advisory Council (OPAC).
The Ambassador expressed appreciation for junior partners including Oman Air, Salam Air, Omantel, PIA, Air Blue, Shaheen Air, HBL, Oasis Water and Gulf Neon Signs and praised the support from public and private media, Pakistan Social Club, Pakistan School System, Beacon House, City School, and overwhelming response from the community.
Chairman OHA lauded the strong support from Pakistani community for Oman Hockey and expressed his desire to build a long-term relationship with the Sponsors to promote Hockey which is one of the oldest sports in Oman, second only to football.
Chairman OHA added that the success of the Public-Private Partnership towards the Oman-Pakistan Friendship Cup could be measured from the fact that there was not a single seat vacant on the night of the Final which was broadcast LIVE on Oman TV, a historic achievement, since it is reserved for final match of His Majesty’s Cup.
Among those gracing the occasion with their distinguished presence were CEO Salam Air, a sponsor of Hockey series, Mr. Ziyad Zubair of Zubair Group (Oasis Water, which sponsored the Final), Ibrahim Al Wahaibi of “Assarain Group’, Awad bin Saeed Baquwair, Chairman Oman Journalist Association and Mr. Salim Jahwari of Jareedah Oman, one of senior most journalists, other journalists from field of Sports Journalism and most prominent members of Pakistani community.
The National Hockey Team of Oman has recently returned to the Sultanate after successfully qualifying and participating in Asia Cup Hockey Championship, reserved for top 8 teams from Asian Continent. Their last appearance in Asia Cup was in 2014.
